On June 29, the China-SCO Sci-Tech Innovation Cooperation Conference was held in the Qingdao International Convention Center. Themed “Pooling Wisdom in the SCO, Shaping a Shared Future with Innovation--Jointly Building a New Open and Inclusive Paradigm for International Sci-Tech Cooperation”, the event is intended to give full play to the pivotal role of the SCO Sci-Tech Innovation Center and to help promote pragmatic sci-tech innovation cooperation among the SCO member states in a deeper and more substantive way.

It was solemnly announced in the 2025 SCO Tianjin Summit that the China-SCO Sci-Tech Innovation Cooperation Center would be established. It is on September 4, 2025 that the Center was launched in Qingdao. This is the first comprehensive event on sci-tech innovation since the founding of the SCO Sci-Tech Innovation Center, aimed at building an important platform to improve multilateral sci-tech innovation cooperation among the SCO member states and facilitate coordinated efforts of different countries to pursue innovation.

In the event, important members of government of the SCO member states, academicians and experts as well as representatives from colleges and universities, scientific research institutions and sci-tech innovation-based companies exchanged views and explored new ways of cooperation in a broad range of sectors from artificial intelligence, modern agriculture, life and health, transnational technology transfer and intellectual property protection. The event is aimed at facilitating joint scientific research activities, the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and platform co-building, fully stimulating the “fusion effect” of sci-tech innovation, and helping promote sci-tech innovation cooperation among the SCO member states in a deeper level and in broader sectors.  (Li Xunxiang)
