An annual record number of people hit Shanghai's Jinshan City Beach over this weekend, seeking cooling relief from the scorching summer heat.
The daily average of tourists at the beach exceeded 15,000, more than any time since the summer began.
A long row of tents was erected on the beach, offering visitors of all ages a wide variety of exciting beach-day activities.
"I like swimming, digging holes at the beach and washing my feet with seawater. I want to come here every day, but my mother has to work," said a little girl.
"There is plenty of fun here in the summer. We can eat watermelon, have a drink or chat with each other," said a tourist.
A few new amusement attractions were offered to beachgoers this year, including a mini-train ride with a scenic view of Hangzhou Bay and the three islands of Jinshan, and even a boat trip to the open sea.
Some interactive attractions like water biking and kayaking are especially popular among tourists.
"It is fun to ride the water bike with my family. It's good exercise and it's exciting," said another tourist.
The beach remains open until 21:30 with nighttime dining services for tourists.
Located along the Hangzhou Bay in Shanghai's Jinshan District, Jinshan City Beach is a man-made beach and recreation area.
Separated from the bay by a retaining wall, the beach is a nice place for swimming and provides a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of central Shanghai. There is a park just to the east with long walking paths, offering a view of the Bay.
