Overseas Chinese teenagers painting the future in Fuzhou

With the theme Pursuing Future of Innovation-Driven Development with Overseas Chinese Wisdom, the Second Overseas Chinese Talent Conference for Development OTDwas held in Fuzhou, China from December 16 to December 18. Featuring a total of 19 activities, the event was aimed at bringing into full play the strength of overseas Chinese in workforce, promoting communication and cooperation between professionals at home and abroad in key sectors, and facilitating the ongoing sci-tech revolution and industrial upgrading.

It is so exciting to pick up where the competition left off a decade ago. As one activity in the Second Overseas Chinese Talent Conference for Development, the retrospective exhibition of work from impression of Fuzhou competitions for overseas Chinese teenagers, themed Overseas Chinese Teenagers Painting the Future in Fuzhou, took place in the Fuzhou Strait International Convention and Exhibition Center. Beyond recalling the previous six competition, the exhibition worked hard to send an invitation to overseas Chinese teenagers to Fuzhou and embrace bless.

The five blessings have descended over this pleasant city. The retrospective exhibition comprised five halls, namely, Fu Jing, Fu Cuo, Fu Wei, Fu Yun and Fu Qi, where saddle-shaped walls, symbolic of traditional buildings in Fuzhou, were given a riot of colors such as banyan green, azure and tangerine. The objects on display in different halls were 265 outstanding pieces of prize-winning work ranging from paintings to calligraphy chosen among more than 10,000 pieces that overseas Chinese teenagers from over 50 countries and regions created in the competitions. These pieces of work epitomized their impression of Fuzhou in varied ways.

The Impression of Fuzhou Competition for Overseas Chinese Teenagers is a cultural exchange event, mainly attended by descendants of Fuzhou-born overseas Chinese among other overseas Chinese teenagers. Since its inception in 2015, the event, which has been held six times, has solicited a total of more than 10,000 pieces of work from over 50 countries and regions and ranging from calligraphy, painting, writing, photography to Chinese speeches. It has blossomed into an important platform to help overseas Chinese teenagers to know their bonds of blood and culture.  ( Guan Shu)
