Fuzhou Today
A new attraction has been added to Kuliang in Fuzhou. The Sino-US Youth Friendship Forest in the vicinity of the Public Service Community of Nations has been planted and opened to tourists.
Themed on Sino-US youth friendship, the woods are intended to become a venue for carrying forward international friendship, an eastern gateway to Kuliang, and an upgraded summer resort and campsite, and are on course to become a friendship-oriented park integrating cultural exchanges, commemoration and education, touch with nature, and leisure and recreation through such steps as landscape enhancement, environmental remediation and ecological restoration.
Covering an area of about 29,500 square meters, the Sino-US Youth Friendship Forest is planted leaning the mountains and arranged in accordance with the terrain, which comprise four featured views, namely “Being as Solid as a Rock”, “The Eternal Cycle of Life”, “The Confluence of Friendship” and “Ascending a Height to Enjoy a Distant View”.
At the main entrance of the park, the view of “Being as Solid as a Rock” jumps into our eyes. Pieces of natural rocks stand erect amid green trees, and are all over embellished with well-spaced flowers and cover plants. On the surface of rocks are inscribed with seven Chinese characters for “Sino-US Youth Friendship Forest”, implying that bonds of friendship between Chinese and U.S. youths are as solid as a rock.
We continue to walk along the stone-paved path to enter the “Eternal Cycle of Life” area, the starting point of the cedar footpath, whose two sides are planted with Chinese roses and original roses. The design is inspired by the millennial China cedar woods in Kuliang, which carries the implied meaning that friendship between the Chinese and U.S. peoples will thrive in an endless succession as the millennial cedar woods do. The cedar footpath can lead to the hiking route for touring around Zhugang Peak, an internet-famous walking route in Kuliang, which is dotted with tourist attractions such as the Liusu Path, the Moon Clasping Pavilion, the Sun Viewing Platform, and the Zhuli Campsite.
In the “Confluence of Friendship”, we can see luxuriantly green trees, which were co-planted by youths of two countries who participated in the Bond of Kuliang: Sino-US Youth Exchange Week last year and “Friends of Kuliang” among other guests, and now composes the Sino-US Youth Friendship Forest. 186 trees as a symbol of friendship are growing sturdily and have become a wood overflowing with vigor. A viewing platform has been built, where sweeping views of Kuliang are observable. (Text by Wang Guanghui, Photo by Bao Hua)
