The Global Water Summit has recently notified Qingdao Water Group Co., Ltd. that the extension project of Baifa seawater desalination plant (second phase) of Qingdao Seawater Desalination Co., Ltd., which belongs to the Group, was shortlisted for the “annual most outstanding seawater desalination project” in the Global Water Awards. This is China’s first seawater desalination project that has been shortlisted for the award.
Launched as early as 2005 and dubbed as the Oscar in water industry, the Global Water Awards are unveiled once a year by the Global Water Summit. The other projects shortlisted for the award together with the extension project of Qingdao Baifa desalination plant comprise the third phase of Saudi Arabian seawater desalination project that can provide potable water to a population of 2 million and the seawater desalination project in Abu Dhabi, the UAE with a daily capacity of more than 900,000 cubic meters.
With a designed capacity of 100,000 cubic meters per day, the extension project of Qingdao Baifa Seawater Desalination Plant (second phase) adopts the technique of “air flotation+ultra-filtration+reverse osmosis+mineralization”. After put into operation, the project will become China’s largest demonstration municipal water supply project in regard to seawater desalination. (Wu Shuai)
