An Asian elephant baby celebrated her first birthday with the public and her mother in south China's Guangzhou City on Sunday.
The elephant, named Weifeng, was born at the end of December in 2021, and is regarded as a princess of the elephant family due to her strong physique.
Under the care of her mother and staff members at the scenic spot, Weifeng has already weighed 442 kg and is expected to be able to live independently in about a year.
"We supplement elephants with vegetable protein, energy, and plenty of leaves from different varieties. We monitor the elephants, weigh them and give them regular medical check-ups," said a staff member.
The scenic spot also invited many elephant fans to celebrate Weifeng's birthday together, and prepared elephant-themed performances for children.
The scenic spot was decorated with red lanterns to celebrate the upcoming Spring Festival which will fall on Jan 22 this year.
"The atmosphere is lively. People can have fun here, and I think it’s great to bring children here, as they can visit elephants and learn knowledge here," said a tourist.
Another tourists said, "We came here last March as our children like knowledge on animals, so we also want to bring them here. We come once a year."
